Explained the variability of earthquake characteristics/phenomena from region to region, or from time to time even in the same region using some examples of earthquakes (e.g., partial rupture of a previously ruptured fault zone, inter-locking of several previous source areas, recurrence interval, magnitude vs. casualties, etc.). The purpose of this term paper is for you to get familiar with earthquake phenomena through doing research for a specific earthquake on your own. 1. Select one specific earthquake in which you are interested. 2. Do research on the earthquake you selected and prepare a report in the format specified as below: 3. The report should be prepared in the following format: (1) Name and student ID (2) Title of the paper (3) Introduction – describe the background of the selected earthquake and your motivation (why you chose the earthquake), target of your research etc. (4) Procedure of the research (articles/websites referred, methods, data etc.) (5) Results of research (your findings on the topic including specific data) (6) Discussion (your thoughts and opinions) (7) Reference – List of literature and websites you referred to The report should be prepared in three or more pages including at least one figure to illustrate the earthquake (on a map?), your idea or key issues to describe characteristics.
