The following steps summarize the activities used in planning, conducting, and completing the interview process. 1. Preplan. a. Review study objectives. b. Develop interview questions. c. Identity the population from which the interviewees will be selected. d. Select the sample to be interviewed. e. Pilot test the interview. f. Schedule the interviews. g. Confirm interview schedule with interviewees. h. Prepare opening and closing comments for the interview. i. If multiple interviewers are used, train them on the purpose of the study and the interview process (IF APPLICABLE). 2. Conduct interview. a. Use prepared opening comments. • Introductions • Purpose of the study and interview • General questions on the interviewee’s work and interests to establish rapport b.
