Interview Process: Bullying

USE THE INTERVIEW PROCESS AND/OR TECHNIQUE IN COLLECTING DATA OR INFORMATION ON BULLYING IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND/OR COUNTY. THE FINAL REPORT AND POWER POINT PRESENTATION MUST INCLUDE ALL OF THE STEPS PROVIDED BELOW. STEPS IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS:

The following steps summarize the activities used in planning, conducting, and completing the interview process. 1. Preplan. a. Review study objectives. b. Develop interview questions. c. Identity the population from which the interviewees will be selected. d. Select the sample to be interviewed. e. Pilot test the interview. f. Schedule the interviews. g. Confirm interview schedule with interviewees. h. Prepare opening and closing comments for the interview. i. If multiple interviewers are used, train them on the purpose of the study and the interview process (IF APPLICABLE). 2. Conduct interview. a. Use prepared opening comments. • Introductions • Purpose of the study and interview • General questions on the interviewee’s work and interests to establish rapport b. Continue with the interview questions. c. Record comments on interview form. d. Probe to obtain more data. • nonverbal • verbal e. Redirect interviewee to interview questions as needed. f. Conclude interview when questions have been answered. • start at a natural ending point • thank the interviewee for the time and information given • indicate what feedback will be given 3. Follow up interview. a. Immediately after the interview, edit and summarize notes. • Clarify notes where needed • Check to see that the information is complete • Include date and name of person interviewed b.
