Refer to primary source texts from the course as much as possible, and be sure to include examples from both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. B. Now look for patterns that tell us something about the way nationalism has affected Europe: explain in detail, with examples, a variety of ways in which nationalism has encouraged peace or prosperity, and a variety of ways in which it has been the basis for violence or conflict. C. Identify what common preconditions existed in those instances where nationalism had positive effects, and what common preconditions existed in the instances where nationalism had negative effects. D. Come to some conclusion of your own about the significance of nationalism to 19th- and 20th-century European history.
